Ellen`s details are given as Ellen Osborne, age 24, spinster, of West Ham, daughter of Henry Osborne, labourer.
witnesses: John Abbott & Rose Layman (SEAX D/P 256/1/36 1880-1883 Image 107 Page 105)
(Register: Dec 1881 West Ham 4a 44)

Death: 1920 age 62 (Register: Mar 1920 W.Ham 4a 52)..

Death: 1919 age 60 (Register: 60 W.Ham 1919 Jun 4a 52).
Walter Osborn
Birth: 1861 in Bishops Stortford (Source: Register: Sep 1861 Bp Stortford 3a 181 and 1871 and 1881 census returns).
Death: not known..
John Edward Osborn
Birth: 1863 in Bishops Stortford (Source: Register: Dec 1863 Bp Stortford 3a 210 and 1871 to 1891 census returns.).
Marriage: 1894 to Mary Ann Martin (Register: Jun 1894 Osborne John Edward Billericay 4a 484).
See below for the family of John Edward & Mary.
Marriage certificate: 12th May 1894 at Independent Chapel of Billericay; John Edward Osborne, age 30, bachelor, boiler maker,
residence at time of marriage - Billericay; son of Henry Osborn, carriage inspector on Railway;
to Mary Ann Martin, age 20, spinster, resident in Billericay, daughter of John Martin, agricultural labourer;
witnesses: John Martin & Amelia Southall.
There are a few problems with this marriage certificate.
John Edward`s surname is spelt differently from that of his father (almost certainly in the writing of the Registrar);
and his father is not declared "deceased".
However the occupations of son and father match previous census returns; and the birth districts in 1901 are relevant to both John Edward and Mary Ann
Death: not known..
Alfred Osborn
Birth: 10th October 1865 (Source: Register: 1865 Dec W Ham 4a 8 and 1871 and 1881 census returns). Baptised Nov 13th 1865 at St. John`s, Stratford, son of Henry, labourer, & Martha, of 21 Victoria Terrace (SEAX D/P 601/1/2 Image 29 Page 52).
Marriage: I have found expensive problems with any further data on Alfred, largely occasioned by the data for the marriage of Rose Osborn in 1922.
The St. John`s marriage certificate shown in SEAX (D/P 601/1/27 Image 137 page 135) names Rose Linda Ann Osborn, age 22, spinster, of 1 Bow Street, as daughter of Alfred Thomas Osborn, labourer (of L.T.C.);
to Arthur William Hoad, age 23, bachelor, coach trimmer, of 2 Bow Street, son of Arthur William Hoad, whhelwright.
Witnesses: Arthur Hoad & Alfred Osborn.
However the 1901 and 1911 census returns for 1 Bow Street, and the 1906 birth certificate for Elsie Daisy Osborn, also at 1 Bow Street, name the parents of Rose, age 13, as Alfred Osborn and Amelia (formerly) Johnson.
The marriage certificate for Amelia Johnson in 1896 names her spouse as Alfred James Osborn, son of James Osborn (deceased), a groom.
There is a baptismal entry for 29th November 1871 at St Paul`s church in Stratford for an Alfred Osborn, born on 15th November, son of James(a hostler) and Ann, of 1 Manby Street (SEAX D/P 627/1/3 Image 34).
An earlier marriage of an Alfred Osborn in 1885 showed him as son of Charles Osborn (deceased).
There is an entry in the 1911 census for an Albert Osborne, birth about 1872 in West Ham, an electric car cleaner, described as married.
Since the census return is for the L C C Tramway Sheds in Bow, and includes the names of 24 persons, the spelling of the surname and the birth details might not be reliable, and I have found no birth to match within 5 years of 1872 that seems a likely match; nor a likely marriage.
So for the time being this Alfred`s life beyond 1881 remains a mystery.
Death: Alfred: possibly 1903 age 39 (Register: Dec 1903 W. Ham 4a 39)

Note regarding the Dean of Windsor, presumed employer of Edward Osborn as a Footman in 1851

Extract from: butleigh.org/butleighpeople/ButleighPeopleN.html
George Neville Grenville, Dean of Windsor, was born George Neville at Stanlake, Berkshire, on 17 August 1789. He was educated at Eton College from 1802 and Trinity College, Cambridge, from 1807 (MA 1810). His father being, since 1797, hereditary visitor of Magdalene College, Cambridge, he obtained the mastership of that college in 1813 and held it for forty years. He was presented by his brother-in-law to the rectory of Hawarden, Flintshire, which he held from 1814 to 1834.
He married on 9 May 1816 Lady Charlotte Legge, daughter of George Legge, third earl of Dartmouth, and Frances Finch; they had six sons and five daughters. The last child, William, was named after William Grenville, 1st baron Grenville (d. 12 Jan 1834 - Prime Minister) who had married Elizabeth Wyndham.
In 1825 George's uncle Thomas Grenville conveyed to him the Somerset estate, based on Butleigh Court, that he had just inherited from James Grenville, Baron Glastonbury (bur. 6 May 1825 Butleigh aged 82), whereupon he took, on 7 July, the additional name of Grenville.
George qualified as a Justice of the Peace for Somerset in 1836 [Exeter and Plymouth Gazette 6 Feb 1836].
In 1841 George Neville-Grenville (51) and his wife Charlotte were living in St. George Hanover Square, together with Ralph (24), William (22), Frances Catherine (20), Georgiana (19), Cicelie (19), Edward (16) and Harriet Louisa (13). From 1846, already a Queen's Chaplain, he was created Dean of Windsor by Sir Robert Peel's nomination. He was also registrar of the Order of the Garter.
Frances Catherine married Edmund Peel a priest, s.o. Robert Peel, in Butleigh on 28 Nov 1849 (Dec Q 10/775 Wells).
In 1851 George was at 'Adelaide House', Hastings, Sussex living with Charlotte, Georgiana, Cicely, Harriet and his married daughter Frances Peel.
The Dean and his son were unable to attend the celebrations of the Queen's birthday in 1847 due to an expected outbreak of violence by the local population due to the high price of bread. Ralph commanded a troop of yeomanry from Chard who were to be used to quell the outbreak on the morning of 25 May 1847. The Dean remained at Butleigh because he expected a disturbance on the estate. [London Standard 25 May 1847].
George died at Butleigh on 10 June 1854 and was buried there on 17 June. An obituary notice occurs in the Bridgwater Times on 22 Jun 1854. With his brother, he was also famous for having discovered the diaries of Samuel Pepys (see below)
George had died before the Court was completed and in 1861 his widow Charlotte was found living with Cicely in 'Northfield Orchard' Baltonsborough, (but with no Osborn servant). They were both still there in 1871, and Charlotte died in 1877.
An account of the Dean's funeral appears in the Wells Journal 24 Jun 1854. It noted that the coffin had been made by Mr. Higgins of Butleigh.
A fuller biography appears in the Bucks Herald of 17 June 1854. The Wells Journal 5 Aug 1854 reported that George's Will was proved and he had left £70,000.

Grenville and Pepys

Samuel Pepys wrote his diary during the years 1660-69 and used a form of shorthand known as tachygraphy which had been invented shortly before by Thomas Shelton. After his death in 1703 he left the diary, in six leatherbound volumes, to Magdalene college, Oxford, where it remained for more than a century.
In 1818 Evelyn's Diary was published and met with some success and in it was mention of Pepys' Diary. This attracted the attention of George Grenville, Master of Magdalene. He took the volumes of the Diary and showed them to his kinsman Lord Grenville, the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs. Lord Grenville, who knew something about ciphers, did a little bit of the deciphering and encouraged the Master.
In 1819 the volumes, with a few hints from the Secretary of State, were handed to an undergraduate, John Smith, (the curate of Barham and a graduate of the College, later rector of Baldock in Hertfordshire). Between 1819 and 1822 Smith diligently transcribed Pepys' six volumes into a total of fifty-four notebooks, which were then used by the Master's older brother Richard Griffin-Neville as the basis for the publication of a small selection from the Diary in 1825. This edition was re-issued in 1828, with further editions appearing in 1848-1849 and 1854 containing expanded selections from the text.
